Cheaper by the Dozen

June 14th, more than just Flag Day.

On June 14, 1947 Bob and Constance were married in St. Paul’s old brick church in Bakersfield, California. A reception followed the ceremony and was held at 1912 Verde in the lovely backyard garden of Carrie Virginia Macdonald. Dad was 24 and Mom was 20 years old.

In 1952, a series of earthquakes damaged the fifty year old brick structure as well as most of the downtown churches, and so a new site was selected to rebuild at 17th and “B” Streets.

The church has been the icon for at least four Dickson marriages.  Christine and Ken, Emily and Rich, Georgene and John as well as Patsy and Mitch.
